naked reasoning

I follow this blog.

Well, I photograph for this blog.

And sometimes, I write for this blog.

The author of this blog, who is a darling friend of mine, is also a very inspiring one. Together, we run body positive workshops for women (categorized under Body Pride).  You can read all about it here:

http://tobeaslut.com/2012/03/05/body-pride-a-letter-from-your-photographer/

The goal of these workshops is to create a space in which women can learn to love, talk freely about and gain a better appreciation for their bodies. And we do this naked.

Imagine! A room full of naked ladies, drinking, laughing and listening to each others’ stories about their bodies, their sex lives, relationships, families, etc. It’s simply electric.

At the end of the group chats, I (the photographer) convert the room into a warm and wonderful studio space and the naked photoshoot begins (if you’re curious, check the blog. Yeah, there are pictures. Yeah, they’re pretty awesome).

Although - call it hypocritical - in spite of my active role in this liberating body-loving experience, I still have yet to feel free and good in my own skin. I still am nowhere to be seen in this image roulette of nakedness.

Baby steps.

All brilliant things start small. So this has become my small start. As a lover of all creative things, and a fairly prolific creator of them, I have decidedly begun to document my life in a photographic journal. I haven’t got the patience to write. I haven’t got the attention span to articulate my thoughts and feelings in such a way that expresses the truth of what goes on in my confusing mind. I don’t have time to sift through the english vernacular to skillfully weave together enlightening tapestries of my life for the world to consume.

But the single moment it takes to capture an image is all I need to remind myself and share with you the things I feel.

Through pictures with angles I never see, I’m attempting to gain an objective look at my body. I’m attempting to see it for what it is as opposed to what I want it to be. I want to learn to love every inch of myself and to understand what I’m sharing with others, what my body does to the image of their world.

It’s my therapeutic nudie blog.

It’s my body and I want to feel at home in it.
